Arsenal duo face race against time to play before end of the season
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber face a race against time to be fit before the end of the season due to respective foot and ankle injuries.
Neither player will be available for Sunday's crucial Premier League match against West Ham, despite Merino returning to training this week.
Arteta stated that Timber's injury, in particular, has been more complex and taken longer to recover from than initially expected.
Arsenal currently holds a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League and has reached their first Champions League final in 20 years.
Arteta has urged his team to maintain full focus on their upcoming game against relegation-threatened West Ham, despite their recent successes and the looming Champions League final.
