Arsenal duo win WSL awards for February | OneFootball

Arsenal have swooped both WSL Player and Manager of the Month awards for February after winning both their matches this month.

After a combination of votes by the public and a panel of experts, Arsenal duo Renee Slegers and Mariona Caldentey have been named WSL Manager and Player of the Month respectively.

Caldentey had an impressive February for the Gunners, with the Spaniard being the driving force behind Arsenal’s two victories this month – scoring and assisting in their 4-3 win over Manchester City, before finding the net once again in a 5-0 derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium before the international break.

The forward saw off competition from Mary Fowler, Kelly Gago, Toni Payne, Elisabeth Terland and teammate Frida Maanum to take the award.

Slegers has been named as Manager of the Month for the second time this season, her first since becoming the permanent boss of the north London club.

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner and Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor were also in contention, but Slegers wins the award once again, having previously emerged victorious in December whilst in interim charge of the team.

The Gunners remain ten points behind runaway WSL leaders Chelsea in third place, three points behind second place United with eight matches remaining and a crucial Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid coming up in the next two weeks.
