Arsenal have emerged as surprise contenders in the race for Vinicius Jr, with the Premier League champions exploring the possibility of signing the Real Madrid superstar. 

While the transfer is still in its early stages, the timing is significant, as Vinicius Jr’s contract with Real Madrid is entering its final year and negotiations over an extension remain unresolved. 

With no breakthrough in sight till now, Europe’s top clubs are beginning to monitor the situation closely.

Arsenal monitoring Vinicius

According to David Ornstein in The Athletic, Arsenal are assessing the feasibility of signing Vinicius as part of their efforts to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

 The Brazilian winger is one of several names under consideration, with Julian Alvarez also featuring on the club’s shortlist.

However, the report makes it clear that Arsenal’s interest is still at an early stage, as no formal discussions have taken place between the two clubs, and there is no certainty that the situation will develop into a concrete transfer.

Despite that, the idea of pursuing Vinicius has received approval throughout Arsenal’s hierarchy.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, find themselves in a delicate position. 

This is because Vinicius is entering the final year of his current deal after spending eight seasons at the club, and negotiations over a renewal have yet to produce an agreement.

The Spanish giants are also aware that allowing one of their biggest stars to run down his contract would be a major financial setback, particularly with a sizeable loyalty bonus due next season.

Salary demands continue to complicate renewal

One of the biggest obstacles in negotiations is believed to be Vinicius Jr’s salary expectations.

Reports suggest the Brazilian wants a contract that places him on the same wage level as Kylian Mbappe, who is among the highest earners at Real Madrid. 

So far, the club has shown no willingness to match those demands, leaving discussions at a standstill, something that has created growing tension within Vinicius’ camp.

As a result, fresh reports have claimed that Real Madrid could become open to selling the Brazilian this summer if no agreement is reached before the transfer window closes. 

Notably, alongside Arsenal, Liverpool have also been linked with a potential move, although there have been no formal approaches, something that is not even expected at this stage.
