WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Football Association this evening.
Russo netted six goals in 11 games for the Lionesses, helping her country to qualify automatically for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in the process. The player’s goal return also resulted in her picking up the Top Goalscorer award for 2023/2024, presented by M&S Food.
In England’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign, Russo scored goals in wins over France and the Republic of Ireland while she also netted against Sweden in the opening group game.
Fans of the Lionesses were recently asked to vote for their England Women’s Player of the Year 2023/2024, connected by EE and Russo came out top of that poll. The forward beat Chelsea pair Lauren James and Lucy Bronze who finished second and third respectively.
After claiming her Player of the Year award, Russo will be hoping for an impressive finish to the calendar year with England. She has been named in head coach Sarina Wiegman’s squad for this month’s international friendlies against Germany and South Africa while she could also feature in games against the United States and Switzerland in the final window of the year.
