Arsenal’s Ben White is set for a month out of action with a hamstring injury, according to multiple reports this week.

Ben White was forced off in the first half of Arsenal’s weekend win over Wolverhampton Wanderers with an injury, with Mikel Arteta confirming afterwards that the player has a hamstring problem.

Charlie Wyett then broke the news for The S*n on Monday that White will be sidelined for at least a month with the hamstring problem, after a scan on Sunday revealed damage.

Sami Mokbel confirms for the BBC that whilst Arsenal are awaiting final confirmation of White’s injury, initial concerns are that he’ll miss between four and six weeks of action.

With Cristhian Mosquera also set to be out for another month, that leaves Arsenal perilously short at both right-centre-back and right-back.

The appeal of White and Mosquera as squad options is that they could provide cover in both positions, but now Arsenal have no obvious alternatives to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber.

The situation is made worse right now by Gabriel Magalhaes’ absence. Though the centre-back is believed to be closing in on a comeback by January, Arsenal still have plenty of games to play before that.

Though Gabriel is usually a left-centre-back, his presence would at least allow someone like Piero Hincapie or Riccardo Calafiori to play at right-centre-back sometimes.

Instead, Arsenal’s best option might be to look to their academy, with Marli Salmon and Josh Nichols both available and already taking part in first-team training on a regular basis.

Both Salmon and Nichols have already made their Arsenal debuts under Arteta. Salmon came on at right-back just this week against Club Brugge, whilst Nichols played the full 90 minutes in the League Cup 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers last season.

It would be another thing entirely for either player to feature in a Premier League game in the middle of a title race, but they could at least get some minutes in the upcoming League Cup and FA Cup fixtures.
