Reports emerged on Thursday claiming that the Gunners are set to approach Newcastle with a first official bid for the Brazil star.

The Mail report that Bruno Guimaraes's representatives are sounding out clubs over their potential interest in the player, suggesting that Newcastle's best player is looking for a summer exit.

A number of players are said to be looking to leave St James' Park this summer, chief among them Sandro Tonali said to be keen to join Tottenham or Manchester United amid ongoing transfer talks with the pair.

Anthony Gordon has already landed his dream move to Barcelona in a deal worth £70million.

And now Bruno Guimaraes could leave, with Arsenal said to be exploring a deal.

The Sun add that Mikel Arteta would want Bruno Guimaraes to provide competition and support for Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

The Brazil international, who turns 29 years old in November, has two years left to run on his contract, but could be available for around £60m

According to Spanish publication AS, the player has an agreement with Newcastle to leave if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle did earn a spot at Europe's top table this season, but next season missed out on Europe entirely.

In any case, Newcastle will be desperate to keep hold of a player who is seen by many as the club's best player.

Shortly after the initial reports emerged, Newcastle issued a short statement to the Chronicle insisting Bruno Guimaraes is "not for sale"

Newcastle are unlucky to sell both Bruno Guimaraes and Tonali in the same window, even if they recoup close to £200m combined.

Tottenham will be keen onlookers regarding Arsenal's reported interest in the player to see if it affects their transfer plans.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insisted in May he would not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave the club this summer.

These reports emerge in light of Arsenal's interest in Morgan Rogers.

Standard Sport understands that the Gunners have made the Aston Villa star their primary summer target, and a first bid is expected.

Villa's stance remains that Rogers is not for sale, but Arsenal will test that resolve.
