Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that Bukayo Saka is set to return to the squad against Newcastle United after recovering from an injury.

The winger has been sidelined by an Achilles problem that had been bothering him for weeks before the League Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Since then, Saka was rested for the Premier League games against Bournemouth and City, both of which they lost. He also missed the defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup and the two-legged win over Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League.

Riccardo Calafiori will also return to the fold after missing the last three games, but Jurrien Timber remains out of action. The defender is still recovering from a muscular injury that has kept him out for the last six weeks.

“Bukayo probably is going to be in the squad, so good news,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against the Magpies.

“Calafiori will be in the squad as well, Jurrien [Timber] is not in the squad.”

Arteta admitted that Saka’s performances had dipped while he trying to play through the pain. The 24-year-old had only registered four goal involvements in 2026 before succumbing to his injury.

“We’ve given him some time. There was a moment where he was struggling to sustain his performances because he wasn’t comfortable at all,” he said.

“We’ve done that, he had the right treatment, the right space and had some time for himself too. It’s now the most important time of the season and he’s back with us.”
