Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged supporters not to panic after the Gunners’ draw with Manchester City, insisting Mikel Arteta’s men are still firmly in the Premier League title race.

The weekend 1-1 stalemate at the Emirates followed an away defeat to Liverpool, leaving Arne Slot’s defending champions five points clear after only five matches.

Some pundits and fans have stated that points dropped against their biggest foes could prove costly. But Parlour, part of Arsenal’s 2004 Invincibles side, says history shows it is far too early to make judgements.

“It’s still early days,” Parlour said, speaking to HaytersTV on behalf of Betting Apps India: “In 1998, we were 12 points behind in March and came back to win the league. Five points now is nothing. There are still 33 games to go, anything can happen over the season.

“Liverpool haven’t been great yet but they’ve still won every game. They’re the ones to beat this year, but Arsenal have the squad and the quality to challenge. If they beat Liverpool at the Emirates later in the season, that could be a big turning point.”

“As much as you want to win every single match, there’s still a long way to go. Don’t panic now – Arsenal are still good enough to win this title.”

Arsenal face Newcastle away this Sunday before a kinder run of fixtures, and Parlour believes that represents the chance to build momentum after a tough start.

“They’ve had two really difficult games against Liverpool and Man City, but after Newcastle the fixtures look good on paper. Every game in the Premier League is hard, but if you’re playing teams who are likely to be in the bottom half, that’s where you have to take advantage.”
