Vinicius Junior will be staying put at Real Madrid in what is a major transfer blow for Arsenal.

Standard Sport had reported previously that the Brazilian was a shock target for the Premier League champions, who are looking to bring in another left winger after the departure of Leandro Trossard to Besiktas.

Mikel Arteta’s side also missed out on their top transfer target, Morgan Rogers, as the Aston Villa forward moved to Chelsea to become the most expensive British player of all time at £117million.

As such, it led the north Londoners to turn to Vinicius, while another name on their shortlist, Bradley Barcola, preferred a move to Liverpool.

The Gunners were believed to have been willing to smash their salary structure to lure the Brazilian to the Emirates Stadium, with some reporting that they were prepared to offer Vinicius £400,000 per week.

However, it looks as though the Brazilian will be staying in the Spanish capital, despite uncertainty over his contract situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Sky Sports reports that while the 26-year-old is still yet to extend his contract - which has a year remaining - Real Madrid are confident of tying their star man to new terms.

Jose Mourinho’s side are believed to have no intention of selling the winger, with talks over his future set to take place this week between the club and the player’s representatives.

Los Blancos hope that Vinicius wil pen a new long-term deal in Spain to ward off any other potential suitors.

It therefore leaves Arsenal in a transfer no-man’s land after their failed pursuit of Rogers, and there is a gaping hole on their left flank, with only Gabriel Martinelli as a recognised left-sided wide man in their squad.
