Former Arsenal and Cameroon right-back Lauren has explained why his former teammate Cesc Fabregas will become a ‘top’ coach in Serie A with Como.

Lauren, part of Arsenal’s invincibles team in 2003-04, gave an in-depth interview to the Italian Football Podcast, where he discussed a number of topics, including Italy star Riccardo Calafiori, his experiences against Serie A sides and the best players he has ever played with and against.

The former Cameroon international explained that Fabregas showed that he had world class mentality at Arsenal from the age of just 15.

High praise for Fabregas from former Arsenal defender Lauren

“He is an amazing lad. You have to remember when he was 15 he had the kind of personality to challenge Patrick Vieria, Ray Parlour, Edu, Gilberto in the middle. He had that kind of personality that you have to replace Patrick Vieira a top player, that he did it with style,” Lauren told the Italian Football Podcast.

“This is something I always tell the youngsters that Fabregas has something that he wanted to improve every single day. He had the talent but he wanted to improve every single day He was the first at the gym, the first at the training ground, he was one of the best in the tarining session.

“He has aligned his personality with what he is doing. I know that he will be a top manager.”

Fabregas has begun his coaching career in Italy with newly-promoted Como, where he also ended his playing career.

Como earned promotion from Serie B at the end of the 2023-24 season, although Osian Roberts, formerly of the Wales FA, Crystal Palace and others, was officially the interim head coach while Fabregas obtained his coaching badges.

Como took a little while to find their feet in Serie A at the start of the 2024-25 campaign, but their first victory eventually came in impressive fashion, securing a 3-2 win away against Atalanta at the end of September.

Since then, they have gone on to pick up two wins and a draw from their last four matches in the top flight.
