Manchester City were treated to a special visit from one of Arsenal and the Premier League’s most iconic and legendary faces from the past this week.
Pep Guardiola and his players are currently out in the United States and will be hoping to extend their stay across the Atlantic across the course of this week as they take on their next challenge at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Having cruised through the group stage format of the tournament by being the only side to win all three matches – defeating Wydad AC, Al Ain, and Juventus – Manchester City now take on opposition from Saudi Arabia in the last-16.
That also features a reunion with Joao Cancelo, as he and his Al Hilal teammates coached by Simone Inzaghi look to cause an upset in Orlando on Monday night by setting up a quarter-final place of their own against either Inter or Fluminense.
And as Manchester City gear up for a big night in the United States looking to progress in the new-look global tournament, their camp in Boca Raton was treated to a surprise from one of the game’s all-time greatest managers.
As revealed by images from Manchester City, Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff – as well as the first-team squad as a whole – were treated to a visit from legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in Boca Raton this week.
Since the Frenchman’s retirement from coaching within the game, Manchester City’s Guardiola has been hugely outspoken in his admiration for a manager he faced off against on multiple occasions throughout his own career.
Speaking in December on the former Arsenal tactician, Guardiola said of Wenger, “Since he retired, he’s been incredible. Arsene is a gentleman from many, many years.
“And he came last time to Manchester City [to visit], we made a big chat, now he’s in the role at FIFA, and it’s important that these figures are in world football, being there.”
As for Wenger, he has been an outspoken admirer of the work Manchester City have put in both on and off the pitch, stating last October, “I feel Financial Fair Play rules have to be changed in the Premier League.
“They face competition from other leagues who have changed rules. You cannot see a club like Manchester City being charged by 115 charges, different charges. I don’t believe in that; a clever club, well-managed, well-run club.
“The Premier League has lost already a case against City linked with commercial activities.”
