Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira wants to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana at Genoa.
Arsenal and Southampton are poles apart in the Premier League table. While the former is aiming to win the Premier League, the Saints are predicted to remain bottom and get relegated.
Thus, it is rare that any Arsenal player or former club legend praises a Southampton player. That too a player who has been a flop for the Saints.
But it is happening right now.
According to a Gianluca Di Marzio report, Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira wants to sign a winger for Genoa in January. Interestingly, Southampton attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana makes his shortlist.
It is wise to admit that Sulemana's Southampton career hasn't been a huge success. The Ghanaian joined the Saints for £22 million two years ago but has only scored two goals for the club so far.
In such a scenario, an exit from Southampton seems the best option for Sulemana.
Previously, the 22-year-old came close to joining Ajax in August but a deal couldn't be finalised. However, the situation could be different this time.
The report mentions that Genoa's need for Sulemana is particularly because of a lack of attackers. Genoa boss Patrick Vieira is a legend of the game and his interest notably means that he can get the best out of Sulemana.
For Southampton, this comes as a potential opportunity to recover a fraction of the money they invested in him. Even if it's a loan in January, a successful spell at Genoa could see the Saints command a good transfer fee for Sulemana.
Southampton made a huge fortune in 2023 selling a huge chunk of their squad. This could again be the situation in June so the Saints will need large funds for a major squad rebuild.
