According to L’Équipe (h/t Le10Sport), Barcola’s situation will be closely examined this summer once the season is over, meaning after the UEFA Champions League Final.

“We will have a discussion afterward,” a source close to the player told the outlet. Talks have been ongoing for several months without leading to a contract extension, despite his current deal running through 2028.

It is a complicated situation that could even result in a transfer since his profile is highly sought after on the market, especially in the Premier League, where Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested.

However, the report adds (h/t Le10Sport) that although Liverpool have appeared to be the most serious club in the race for several weeks, the Reds could ultimately hesitate to sign a player who might block the path of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

As a result, Liverpool may instead prioritize signing a right winger. That scenario could leave the door open for Arsenal, who are determined to reshape their attack this summer.
