After a couple of games on the bench, Lucas Nygaard returned to the Brabrand IF starting lineup last week, but despite a number of good saves his team lost the match 3-1.

The scoreline was certainly not reflective of Nygaard’s performance, so it was no surprise to see him in the starting lineup against as Brabrand took on Hellerup IK this weekend.

This time around, the team did a much better job of protecting their goalkeeper, and the 19-year-old ended up keeping the first clean sheet of his loan spell in a 2-0 win.

For the most part, Nygaard wasn’t particularly tested by HIK. He made simple saves from tame efforts midway through both halves, and he rushed out to claim a through ball in the 34th minute.

But the goalkeeper’s big moment came just before that on the half-hour mark, as HIK’s Jonas Damkjaer shifted the ball onto his left foot in the penalty area before firing a shot towards the near-post top corner.

Nygaard reacted quickly and tipped the shot onto the crossbar with his fingertips, ensuring his team only conceded a corner.

The win puts Brabrand three points clear of the two relegation spots, with the Danish side primarily focusing on staying up after last season’s promotion.

After all his saves against Akademisk BK and a clean sheet against HIK, Nygaard should remain in the starting lineup for Brabrand’s next game away to Ishoj IF on November 8th.
