Arsenal's staff were no doubt watching when on Friday night Sporting set their best-ever home winning streak.

The reigning Portuguese champions, who are likely to finish second to FC Porto this season, came from behind to defeat Santa Clara 4-2 at the Estádio José Alvalade to make it 17 successive home wins.

While Rui Borges' side may feel like they benefited from a few key decisions during the game with Pedro Gonçalves' penalty to make it 1-1 perhaps a soft decision. However they were nonetheless the superior side at home once again.

Francisco Trincão and Daniel Bragança made it 3-1 to the Lions just before the break before Rafael Nel wrapped up the game late on.

That win made it 17 home victories in a row in all competitions, which is Sporting's best-ever run in a single season, topping the previous record of 16 home successive home wins that dates all the way back to the 1973/74 season.

In total, Sporting have played 22 games at home, winning 20, drawing once, and losing once (to Porto back in August).

The Portuguese side have also scored in all of their home games this season, netting six twice (against Arouca and AFS) and five twice (against Bodo/Glimt and Alverca). In total, Sporting have netted 68 times in those 22 fixtures, averaging just over three goals a game.

So far in the Champions League, Kairat, Marseille, Club Brugge, holders Paris Saint-Germain, and the aforementioned Bodo/Glimt have all come to Lisbon and lost. But that winning run will be severely tested on Tuesday when Premier League leaders Arsenal come to town.
