Arsenal have reportedly made another attempt today in their bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero.
Reports first emerged yesterday that the Gunners want to bring the Spurs centre-back to the Emirates Stadium club.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants a quality cover for the injured William Saliba and signing Romero appeals to him.
The North Londoners have made another attempt today and are willing to offer way above what Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are offering.
However, Tottenham continue to reject the idea of selling him to the Gunners.
Inter Milan have a deal in place with Tottenham but have yet to agree personal terms with Romero.
Atletico have agreed personal terms with the defender and are expected to make an offer that matches Inter’s.
A move to La Liga will appeal to the Argentina international, but it appears his representatives have told the Gunners that he is open to joining them.
Arsenal will not be eyeing a deal if they have to start convincing the player to join them, and Spurs fans will not be surprised.
He was close to missing their last Premier League game of last season – against Everton – after travelling to Argentina to watch the Argentine Primera Division final between River Plate and his old club Belgrano following a knee injury.
However, a media uproar forced him to return to London for the game, but it was clear at the time that he had played his last game for Tottenham.
Spurs would prefer to sell him to a club outside England, and Atletico are working hard to ensure they bring him to Spain.
