Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently addressed the ongoing situation surrounding Thomas Partey’s contract, downplaying any immediate concerns regarding his future.
It must be noted that the midfielder has caught the attention of Barcelona, who are eyeing him as a potential addition to their squad during the summer transfer window in 2025.
Currently, Partey is under contract with Arsenal, but this agreement is set to expire at the end of the current season, making him an attractive target for Barcelona.
In recent weeks, reports have indicated that Partey is garnering considerable interest from Barcelona’s management team.
The sporting director, Deco, has been closely monitoring the midfielder’s situation, recognizing his potential value as a free agent in the upcoming transfer market.
Since Partey has not yet renewed his contract with Arsenal, he will be eligible to negotiate with any interested club starting January 1. This development opens the door for Barcelona to explore their options in acquiring the Ghanaian international.

Despite this interest from Barcelona, Arteta has assured fans and stakeholders that Arsenal is planning to engage Partey in discussions regarding a new contract.
The manager expressed a clear desire to retain the midfielder, who has proven to be an integral part of the team’s plans.
“He is only 31 and is in a really good place. We will have talks,” said the Arsenal manager as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“The one thing that we needed was Thomas to be at the level we wanted certainly. He’s working so hard to do what he’s doing at the moment,” he added.
Should these negotiations result in a contract extension, Barcelona may need to redirect their attention elsewhere in search of midfield reinforcements.
One potential alternative for Barcelona could be Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich. The German international is well-regarded in football circles and could fit the bill if Barcelona finds themselves unable to secure Partey.
