Arsenal: Max Dowman wins Premier League award for historic first season

Arsenal youngster’s impact his season has been recognised by the Premier League's Football Development Panel

Arsenal youngster Max Dowman has won the Premier League home grown debutant of the season award.

This particular award recognises the outstanding impact that a player has made during their breakthrough season and the milestones they have achieved along the way.

As decided by the Premier League's Football Development Panel and given out at the Academy Awards Evening at Wembley Stadium, Dowman is the recipient of the award - sharing the accolade on a joint basis alongside Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha.

Dowman has enjoyed a breakthrough Arsenal campaign, making his Premier League debut against Leeds at 15 years and 235 days, winning a penalty to help the Gunners win 5-0.

Dowman’s impressive cameos throughout the season had lead many to suggest that he should be named in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup as a potential game-changer.

The teenager is not thought have been included in the 55-man provisional list submitted by Thomas Tuchel, though he has signed a pre-agreement to pen a professional contract with Arsenal when he turns 17 in December.

Asked how Dowman compared to other academy prospects he has seen come through at the top level, Mikel Arteta has said: "Certainly one of the best.

"What he's done with us at the age of 15 - me, personally, I haven't seen it before. Only with a guy that used to play in Barcelona, but maybe not even that.

"Not only that he has a certain charisma as well and a personality that he doesn't get overwhelmed, whether it's by the situation, or the stadium, or the opposition. That's a huge quality to have."

Meanwhile, Andre Harriman-Annous - who has made two senior appearances this season - has won the scholar of the year award for Arsenal.
