Jamie Carragher has said Mikel Arteta will have been “furious” at the Brighton result

Arsenal will get “back on track” following their 3-0 loss to Brighton, Jamie Carragher has predicted.

The Gunners were well below their best at the weekend, slumping to a first defeat of the season as they were outclassed and outfought at the Amex Stadium.

Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas to advantage of some unusual poor Arsenal defending to fire in from distance to give Brighton a 2-0 lead at half time, before Chema Andres headed in a third shortly before the hour mark after being left unmarked at the back post from a corner.

Ultimately, Arsenal could not live with the pace and intensity Brighton were playing at, with Mikel Arteta admitting he feared the worst from the opening minute.

Arsenal are not back in action for another three weeks because of the international break and while Carragher expects the defending Premier League champions to bounce back, he does think the long wait to put things right will “hurt” Arteta.

"I think Arsenal will be fine, I think it’s more about what it does for the other teams. I think everyone raises their belief, thinking that if Brighton can do it, why can’t we do it?’ Carragher said on his Sky Sports podcast.

"What will hurt Mikel Arteta is the fact that it’s the game before the international break. He’ll be so desperate to have his players on the training pitch, have a team meeting, go through the game.

“He’ll have to wait three weeks for that now and maybe by that time his anger will have subsided, because I’m sure he’ll be furious.

"We can’t expect the best teams to perform every single week. It was a real bad one for them, but how consistent Arsenal have been for so long, I’m sure they’ll get back on track."
