Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal future has taken another significant turn, with David Ornstein reporting that Al-Hilal are now pursuing a deal for the Brazilian winger.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Martinelli over recent weeks, but this latest update provides something much more concrete, with talks now underway and Arsenal’s asking price reportedly set at around £60million.
According to Ornstein, there is no agreement yet, but discussions are ongoing between Arsenal and Al-Hilal, as well as with Martinelli himself.
Perhaps the biggest development from Ornstein’s update is the first clear indication of the sort of fee Arsenal are looking for.
The Gunners reportedly want in the region of £60million to sanction Martinelli’s departure.
Just Arsenal has followed the uncertainty surrounding the 25-year-old closely. Martinelli previously rejected the possibility of moving to Türkiye, while several other potential destinations have subsequently been mentioned.
His Arsenal situation has also attracted plenty of attention after he was left out of the matchday squad for both the Community Shield and Friday night’s 3-0 victory over Coventry City.
That treatment prompted Arsenal legend Ian Wright to admit that the situation made him feel “uncomfortable”, particularly given Martinelli’s contribution during his time in North London.
However, Ornstein’s latest update suggests we have now moved beyond clubs merely showing an interest in Martinelli.
Al-Hilal are actively pursuing a deal and Arsenal appear to have established the price at which they would be prepared to do business.

There is another significant difference between the Al-Hilal interest and Martinelli’s previous opportunity to move to Türkiye.
Ornstein reports that the Brazilian is open to the possibility of joining the Saudi club.
That could remove a major obstacle to a potential transfer if Al-Hilal are prepared to meet Arsenal’s valuation.
There is still some distance to travel. No agreement has been reached, and talks being underway certainly doesn’t guarantee that Martinelli will leave the Emirates.
Nevertheless, the combination of Arsenal setting a valuation, Al-Hilal entering discussions with the club and Martinelli’s representatives, and the player being open to the move makes this arguably the most significant development surrounding his future so far this summer.
After weeks of uncertainty over whether Martinelli would remain part of Mikel Arteta’s plans, we may finally be approaching an answer.
The big question now is whether Al-Hilal are prepared to meet Arsenal’s £60million valuation.
Would you accept £60million for Gabriel Martinelli, or should Arsenal be demanding even more for the Brazilian? Let us know in the comments.
