Arsenal are interested in signing one of Bayern Munich’s experienced players this summer, according to German outlet SportBild.
The Gunners are expected to bolster their attack during the next transfer window, and they could make multiple signings.
A marquee striker should be the top priority, but manager Mikel Arteta could also be interested in signing a versatile winger.
SportBild now claim that Leroy Sane is facing an uncertain future at Bayern, with his contract expiring on June 30.
The Germany international is willing to accept a pay-cut on his £16.8 million annual salary to prolong his stay at Bayern.
However, Bayern may look to offload Serge Gnabry or Kingsley Coman first before offering a contract.
That is unlikely to happen until the busy end of the summer, and this could see Sane leave on a free transfer.
The outlet say that Arsenal ‘specifically’ want to sign the winger, who is well known to Arteta.
Arteta previously worked with Sane when he was the assistant manager at Manchester City.
The Gunners have had a dip in league form since Bukayo Saka’s unfortunate hamstring injury.
17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri has stepped up in Saka’s absence in recent weeks, but Arsenal could have fared better with an experienced competitor in the squad.
Sane would provide exactly that for the Gunners. He is comfortable on either wing.
The £38 million-rated star has a proven track record in the Premier League. He has managed 54 goal contributions from 90 appearances for City in the past.
Arsenal need to manage Saka’s workload to avoid future injuries. Sane would be a quality option to come off the bench. He could also start occasionally.
Sane, described as ‘lively‘ by Bundesliga.com, could be willing to accept a rotational role at Arsenal, having done a similar job for Bayern this campaign.
It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old is a target for the Gunners or the speculation is agent-driven to persuade Bayern to speed up contract talks.
