Callan Hamill’s transfer to Arsenal was never exactly a secret, particularly after he joined up with the u18 team for pre-season training at the end of June.

But the deal wasn’t officially confirmed until Wednesday, with both clubs sharing posts announcing the player’s new deal.

St. Johnstone confirmed that Hamill has joined Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, quoting the player as saying: “I can’t thank the club enough for everything they have done for me.

“Making my first team debut at the end of last season was obviously a very special day. The gaffer believed in me and gave me that chance, which I’ll always be grateful for.”

Arsenal then announced Hamill’s transfer through the confirmation of their new batch of first-year scholars, which includes the young full-back.

The Gunners write that Hamill is “a talented right-back from Scotland who loves nothing more than drive forward and cross the ball with precision”.

Hamill also then announced the move on his Instagram, saying: “Delighted to announce I have signed for Arsenal. Thank you to everyone who has helped me through out my journey, hard work continues.”

Rangers, Celtic, and a number of Premier League clubs fought to sign Hamill last summer, but St. Johnstone managed to hold onto him at the time.

Arsenal then went on a charm offensive. Despite losing one of their talented youngsters, St. Johnstone have been impressed by the way Arsenal operated throughout the process.

The 16-year-old is capable of playing multiple positions, including centre-back, full-back, and midfield. As well as St. Johnstone and the Arsenal academy on trial, he also spent time representing the Scotland u17s last season.
