Frida Maanum’s 19th-minute goal was enough to settle the Round 1 final tie and send Arsenal through.
Arsenal started the match positively and they piled early pressure on the Rosenborg goal. The Gunners took the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances in the 19th minute when visiting keeper Rugile Rulyte produced a big error when dealing with a cross and Maanum was able to fire the loose ball home.
Caitlin Foord then fired narrowly over before Alessia Russo hit the bar with a header. Russo found herself through on goal soon after but fired wide before Rulyte denied Maanum a second goal.
Jones Eidevall’s side continued to chase another goal and both Maanum and Mariona Caldentey went close in the final five minutes of the first half but neither could make the breakthrough.
The second half started in the same manner as the first with Arsenal on the attack. Russo twice threatened the Rosenborg goal before Leah Williamson was denied a penalty when she went down in the box.
Later in the half, Emily Fox’s long range effort brought a save from Rulyte before Kyra Cooney-Cross saw a shot hit the bar. Williamson then had a header cleared off the line.
Another goal wouldn’t come for The Gunners but they did enough to get the win and qualify for Round 2.
Arsenal will learn of their UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2 opponents when the draw is conducted by UEFA on Monday lunchtime.
