Arsenal have completed the signing of Sweden forward Lina Hurtig from Juventus, describing the 26-year-old as a ‘key target’ for the club ahead of the new WSL season next month.
Hurtig is only the Gunners’ second first-team signing of the summer after back-up goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese. Arsenal have not disclosed the length of her contract.
“It feels so great – I'm very happy to be here,” Hurtig told the club’s official website.
“I've always, always wanted to play in England, and I've always been interested in English football, so it’s super exciting for me to be here. I know Arsenal are a great club, with great players and lots of quality, so I think I will enjoy it here.”
Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall added: “Lina is an excellent forward who will bring power and dynamism to our game. She has shone in the Champions League and international tournaments and we are delighted that she will be lining up for Arsenal moving forward.”
Hurtig joined Juventus in 2020 after making her name in Sweden with Umea and then Linkopings. She has been an international player since 2014 and was part of the Swedish squad that won an Olympic silver medal last summer, as well as a third place finish at the World Cup in 2019, and a semi-final appearance at Euro 2022 last month.
Last season, she helped Juventus knock Chelsea out of the Champions League group stage and go toe to toe with eventual winners Lyon in the quarter-finals.
Hurtig is the second Swedish player to join Arsenal in recent months following the January acquisition of international teammate Stina Blackstenius.
