Arsenal have suffered a blow to their summer transfer plans as the injury sustained by Takehiro Tomiyasu has halted potential plans to sell him, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners star has undergone surgery on his knee, and his recovery could extend until December, ruling out an exit for him from the club this year.

Arsenal initially wanted to see how Tomiyasu would fare upon his planned return from injury before deciding on his future at the end of the season.

However, the medical team decided he needed a second knee operation, and he is not expected to return until the end of 2025.

The Japan international is out of contract at the end of next season, and he could have had the chance to prove himself and earn a new deal had he not gone under the knife again.

Tomiyasu missed the start of the season due to an operation, only returning to action last October when he came off the bench against Southampton after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

The 26-year-old could end up leaving Arsenal for free as he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a rival club from January 2026, which would be a massive blow for the club.

Gabriel Jesus is also in a similar situation as he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Gunners would have listened to offers for the Brazilian international at the end of the season, but his rehabilitation is due to extend into the end of 2025.

Their chances of selling Jesus in the summer are slim, and they will have to look elsewhere to boost their coffers.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to bolster his squad in the summer, and major sales could be necessary to get that done.

With Tomiyasu and Jesus seemingly off the market, they could be forced to sell an established star this summer to help fund purchases.
