Arsenal superstar opens up on Real Madrid interest – ‘Of course it’s really tempting…’ | OneFootball

It has been a little more than a month since William Saliba signed a new contract at Arsenal, thus committing his long-term future at the Emirates.

It was a real blow for Real Madrid, in particular, as the Spanish giants had emerged as one of the top suitors for the French international.

The club were indeed determined to sign Saliba, who was identified as the ideal man to spearhead Real Madrid’s defensive line.

Saliba, for his part, was well aware of the interest from Real Madrid but he has spoken about his desire to win titles with Arsenal as the singlemost reason behind the contract renewal.

Now, in a recent interaction with Telefoot, the Frenchman reiterated that thought, admitting that winning titles at Arsenal remains his topmost priority.

The Arsenal defender, though, did not fail to acknowledge the interest from Real Madrid, describing it as ‘tempting’.

“Of course it’s really tempting when a club like that is interested in you,” the French international told Telefoot (h/t Fabrizio Romano).

“But I wanted to win titles at Arsenal first before thinking about anything else,” he added.

Although Real Madrid were disappointed to have missed out on Saliba, the club are in a good place at the moment, having signed Dean Huijsen.

The Spanish international has stepped up brilliantly since joining the club and has built a formidable defensive pairing with Eder Militao, who is currently enjoying the best form of his career.

Indeed, the Brazilian international is yet to be dribbed past in any of the last five competitive matches.

And his connection with Huijsen has been simply sublime, which has gone a way in helping Real Madrid move on from Saliba.
