James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that Arsenal are continuing their protracted pursuit of Blackburn Rovers youth striker Igor Tyjon, with the Gunners already having made several bids, but the youngster’s club refusing to sell.

McNicholas adds that Tyjon has declined to sign a professional contract with Rovers, but the club have extended his scholarship contract into a third year, which is a relatively unusual step in academy football.

Normally, players are on scholarships for two years before either signing professionally or leaving.

Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that Tyjon has now formally asked Rovers to de-register him, as he looks to complete his move to Arsenal.

The player is currently neither training nor playing, and his case is reportedly set to go before an independent panel – the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Committee.

Unfortunately, that’s not going to be a quick process, with Nixon reporting that it could take several weeks. In the meantime, Tyjon’s future remains in the balance.

RoversXtra had reported for Medium on Sunday that Arsenal’s current offer for Tyjon is worth £1m upfront, with a further £2m in add-ons.

The same source adds that Tyjon had no choice but to accept his scholarship being extended this summer, with Rovers activating an option in his existing deal.

Whether the next few weeks finally bring a resolution to the situation or simply extend Tyjon’s year-long wait to join Arsenal remains to be seen.
