Arsenal have identified Palmeiras star Danilo and Orlando City winger Facundo Torres as ‘targets’ but there are doubts over whether they will look to lure the duo to the Emirates Stadium in January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Despite spending close to £120million during the summer window, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will be given the opportunity to splash the cash once again at the turn of the year.
According to the Telegraph, Arteta is prioritising the acquisition of a wide-man in January and the arrival of a midfielder is also on the agenda.
The report suggests Arsenal have signed off the Spaniard’s list of targets and among them are Danilo and 10-cap Uruguay international Torres.
It is understood that the north Londoners have stepped up their pursuit of Danilo by sending scouts to watch him in action against Fortaleza earlier this week.
The Brazilian reportedly has a release clause worth £86million written into his Palmeiras contract and the club are unwilling to sanction his exit unless that figure is met.
Torres’ agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, has revealed that he is due to hold discussions with Arsenal scout Toni Lima in the coming days.
Jones understands that Danilo and Torres are on Arsenal’s radar, but he is unaware of whether the South American duo are at the top of Arteta’s shortlist of targets.
The reporter believes there is a possibility that the Gunners will keep tabs on the pair as they mull over whether to make a move in the future.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “They are targets, but we’ll have to see whether they are top targets.
“At the moment, it’s tricky to tell whether they are watching these players with an eye on the immediate future or a bit further down the line.”
Danilo may only be 21, but he has already made 138 senior appearances for Palmeiras, so he boasts plenty of experience.
The defensive midfielder has also clinched an abundance of silverware, including the Copa Libertadores on two occasions, and there is no doubt that he would head to Arsenal with a winning mentality if a deal gets over the line.
Torres has just enjoyed a memorable 2022 season with Orlando City, having got his hands on the US Open Cup and racked up 23 goal contributions in 40 outings.
The 22-year-old has made 111 appearances over the course of his senior club career and also broken into Uruguay’s national team, which emphasises that he boasts plenty of talent.
