Gunners on the verge of sealing triple deal

The 19-year-old, who has been at Manchester United since 2021, has been targeted by the Gunners as they continue their academy recruitment drive.

Standard Sport understands that Scanlon will join Arsenal on a free transfer from United, with a 40% sell-on clause included in the deal.

The winger has completed his medical and the two clubs are expected to finalise the deal in the next 48 hours.

There are no immediate plans to send Scanlon on loan. He will initially be involved with the Arsenal Under-21 side, though the teenager has joined the club with the intention of breaking into Mikel Arteta's first-team plans as quickly as possible.

He has already been capped 24 times at senior level by Gibraltar and that has helped fuel interest in him across Europe, particularly in Spain.

Sevilla were keen on signing Scanlon permanently in January, but United opted instead to send him on loan to Swindon for the second half of the campaign.

Arsenal's new Under-21 head coach David Horseman briefly worked with Scanlon at United and highly recommended him to the Gunners.

There have also been positive reports from Chris Perkins, who was head of academy recruitment at Derby when Scanlon was progressing through the age groups before joining United.

Scanlon will follow Habeeb Ogunneye in making the move from Old Trafford to Arsenal.

Like Scanlon, Ogunneye has been signed on a free transfer with a significant sell-on clause.

There has been a renewed focus at Arsenal to strengthen at Under-21 level and improve the level of that group.

Igor Tyjon confirmed on Tuesday he will be leaving Blackburn after the Gunners finally secured the 18-year-old striker.

After pursuing him for several windows, Arsenal reached an agreement with Blackburn for a deal worth an initial £1million with a further £2m in add-ons.
