Arsenal up to second after win at Goodison Park

Everton were unable to build on their streak-ending win over Chelsea last week after losing 3-1 at home to Arsenal.

There were three goals in the space of just four minutes early on in the game. Renée Slegers' side took the lead in the 11th minute. Last week's star of the game against the champions, goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, did well to stop Mariona Caldentey's effort but Katie McCabe followed up with an excellent effort to put her side 1-0 up with her first league goal of the season.

That lead didn't last long though. Honoka Hayashi made it two goals in two games when she picked up the ball on the edge of the area and curled her effort beyond Anneke Borbe.

Alessia Russo made it 2-1 one in the 15th minute although she didn't know she did. A wayward shot bounced off the England striker with Brosnan parrying it away only for Caitlin Foord to finish. However, the ball had in fact gone on over the line before bouncing out meaning that Russo was the scorer.

This time Arsenal were able to keep their lead before wrapping it up in the 87th minute from Olivia Smith's strike from distance. Significantly, Leah Williams was also among the substitutes and she came on late on to make her long-awaited return.

That win means Arsenal are now up to second ahead of Sunday's fixtures.
