The best teams in English football go head to head in Sunday's EFL Cup final at Wembley and both have the chance to start what could be a glorious end to the season. This is the first League Cup final in history to be played between the top two teams in the country and as such is a massive boon for the competition.
Both Arsenal and Manchester City, who sit first and second in the Premier League respectively, are competing on four fronts at the business end of the season and could, in theory, complete an historic quadruple.
No team has ever won all four - Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Champions League - but Arsenal are 9/1 to do it this season. Their first task is to come through their Champions League last-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. After that, they need to beat City to claim their first piece of silverware of the season and, crucially, their first since winning the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta in 2020.
The Gunners are 7/10 to lift the trophy. They are looking to do so for the third time, after 1987 and 1993. However, they've lost more finals than any other side (6), most recently in 2018 against Manchester City.
City have won this competition eight times - second only to Liverpool's 10 - and four of those triumphs came under Pep Guardiola. They have not, however, won it since 2021. In 2023, it was the only trophy missing from what would have been a quadruple when they won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
Guardiola loves this competition and is 1/1 to get his hands on the EFL Cup for the first time in half-a-decade this Sunday.
The teams have met once already this season, drawing 1-1 at the Emirates in September's league fixture and the Gunners have done a good job of avoiding defeat against City in the past couple of seasons. Maybe Arteta knows a thing or two about his former-mentor's methods.

Manchester City have lost their last two major finals, both in the FA Cup in 2024 (vs Manchester United) and 2025 (vs Crystal Palace). Both finals were settled in normal time.
This will be the second League Cup final to take place between two non-British managers of the same nationality (Spaniards Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta). Previously, Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool beat fellow German Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea on penalties in 2022.
The last three meetings between Arsenal and Manchester City have featured goals for both teams and so did last year's EFL Cup final between Newcastle and Liverpool which ended 2-1 to the Magpies.
Manchester City have won all five of their League Cup games this season by a 2+ goal margin. Only two teams have ever won the trophy while winning every game by 2+ goals - Man City in 2013-14 and Man Utd in 2022-23.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Manchester City in all competitions, having lost 15 of their previous 16 against them (W1). Four of those last six meetings, however, ended in a draw, including this season's sole encounter in the Premier League.
At the time of writing (Monday morning), the players markets for the EFL Cup final are yet to go live on Betfair. When they do appear later in the week here are some stats you may want to consider when weighing up a single bet or a bet builder as part of Betfair's Bet £10 Get £10 offer.
Erling Haaland has scored in each of his last three games against Arsenal in all competitions. However, he's never scored in six appearances at Wembley so far in his Manchester City career.
Rayan Cherki has been involved in four goals in his four League Cup appearances for Manchester City (3 goals, 1 assist), averaging a goal involvement once every 47 minutes in the competition.
Arsenal's Eberechi Eze scored Crystal Palace's winner against Manchester City in the 2025 FA Cup final. He could become the third player to score against an opponent in both a League Cup and an FA Cup final after Roberto Di Matteo (vs Middlesbrough) and Didier Drogba (vs Liverpool).
