Gunners have eyes on last eight as they look to follow up last week’s last-gasp equaliser

Arsenal take on Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday looking to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Gunners stole a late draw in the first leg at the BayArena last week, with Kai Havertz haunting his old employers to earn Mikel Arteta’s side a 1-1 stalemate to take back to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were dealt a taste of their own medicine in Germany as Robert Andrich struck Leverkusen’s opener from a corner.

The goal prompted Kasper Hjulmand, the Leverkusen manager, to converse with the Gunners’ set-piece coach Nicolas Jover following the strike.

Now, Arteta’s men are out to book their place in the last eight, buoyed by the extension of their lead at the top of the Premier League over the weekend.

Manchester City’s draw at West Ham followed their 2-0 win over Everton, meaning that they moved eight points clear at the summit.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen team news

The Gunners will be without Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard for this fixture, after the pair were not spotted in training on Monday.

Timber hobbled off against Everton on Sunday, and an ankle issue will keep him out of the second leg here.

Odegaard, the captain, continues to be troubled by a knee injury, despite returning momentarily during the north London derby.

Leandro Trossard was back in training on Monday after picking up a knock against Mansfield in the FA Cup, and then pulling out of the travelling party for the first leg at the last minute.

Mikel Merino is a long-term absentee with a stress fracture in his foot.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, Martin Terrier was forced off just two minutes into the second half against Bayern Munich at the weekend, after being on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Nicolas Jackson, which saw the Chelsea loanee sent off.

Elsewhere, Lucas Vazquez, Loic Bade, Mark Flekken and Arthur are all ruled out.

Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction

Leverkusen had their chance to take a lead to north London, but they had it snatched from them at the death last week with a stoppage-time penalty.

Die Werkself will have their work cut out to overcome the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, especially after the 2-0 win over Everton, which will have the Premier League leaders in good spirits.

Arsenal to win, 3-0.
