League leaders Arsenal welcome Brentford to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, aiming to protect their five-point lead at the summit.
Mikel Arteta’s side extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches in all competitions with a gritty draw against Chelsea at the weekend. However, they face a Brentford side that is riding high after a thrilling 3-1 victory over Burnley. This London derby presents a significant test for both teams’ ambitions.
Mikel Arteta is managing a defensive headache after William Saliba picked up a knock in training. Furthermore, Gabriel Magalhães is also sidelined with a thigh injury. Consequently, Cristhian Mosquera could partner Piero Hincapié in central defence. In better news, captain Martin Ødegaard and striker Viktor Gyökeres are pushing for starts after featuring from the bench against Chelsea.
Keith Andrews will be reluctant to change a winning side. However, he remains without long-term absentees Fábio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo, and Josh Dasilva. Igor Thiago, who has 11 league goals this season, is the first name on the team sheet. Additionally, Reiss Nelson is ineligible to face his parent club.
The Gunners sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. While the draw at Chelsea ended a winning streak, their home form remains imperious. In fact, they have conceded just two goals at the Emirates all season. Arsenal have won their last seven home games in all competitions, making them formidable hosts.
The Bees are enjoying a fine campaign, sitting 10th in the table. Their 3-1 win over Burnley ended a two-match losing streak and showcased their resilience, scoring three times in the final 11 minutes. However, their away form is a concern. Keith Andrews has overseen five defeats in six Premier League away games this season.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; White, Mosquera, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Madueke, Gyokeres, Eze
Brentford predicted XI: Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Ajer; Yarmoliuk, Henderson, Damsgaard; Ouattara, Thiago, Schade
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Amazon Prime Video. Coverage is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm GMT.
