Renee Slegers says she is disappointed with the points Arsenal have dropped in the last two games in the Women’s Super League.

But she is looking ahead and hoping for an important three points against Manchester City on Saturday.

Lucy Parker’s stoppage-time equaliser snatched a point for Aston Villa against the Gunners last weekend – and the weekend before that, Slegers’ team ground out a goalless draw against Manchester United.

Now they sit fifth in the WSL table and seek to get back to winning ways against third-placed Manchester City.

In her pre-match press conference, Slegers described herself as “very disappointed with the points we lost in the last two games”, and went on: “Now we look forward and every game you play for Arsenal, when you represent Arsenal, you have to go and win every game. That’s reality, so nothing really changes for us and what I think has been good about this group is how we came together, how we were honest and how we are constructive moving forward, and that’s key for me.

“The key in the process is if we stay in the present, stay in the here and now, look at the details, we want to do better. That’s all we can do now and I feel like we’ve had a good week with the players.”

Renee Slegers: All Arsenal matches are “must-win”

Slegers refrained from highlighting the City clash as “must-win”, instead saying that was “the aim for every game for us”.

“For us, every game is important and we said the same thing, our first game against a new opponent, London City Lionesses, was very important. The game against West Ham was very important because we know how hard it is to go to that ground.

“Every game in the league is important because every opposition creates different kinds of problems for us, and we have to deliver with consistency.”

But she did admit that all matches between clubs at the top of the table were “high stakes”.

“Always the top teams playing against each other, they are high-stakes games because it’s about a lot of points. But what we want to do is be consistently consistent. For us, going into this season, every game is just as important because we don’t want to lose points in any game against any opposition.”

Arsenal face Manchester City at the Joie Stadium on Saturday, 4th October, kicking off at 12 noon.
