Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Arsenal have joined the race to hijack the move of Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo to Juventus. The Gunners need a quality defender to truly compete for the title and have been scouring the transfer market for quality options. The 25-year-old defender could go on to become one of the best options for Mikel Arteta’s side. He is one of the best defenders in the La Liga so it makes all the sense for Arsenal to make the move.

Arsenal want to hijack the signing of Ronald Araujo

William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Riccardo Calafiori are already the three top centre-backs present in the Arsenal squad. The 25-year-old Araujo would just go on to add to the quality of the list. The Barcelona defender is currently in his prime and also has his best years ahead. Moreover, Araujo can perform his trade as a centre-back and also as a right-back in the playing XI.

Juventus are said to be keeping tabs on Araujo and very close to signing him. Reports say that they will take him on a loan move till the end of the season with a mandatory clause to purchase him in the summer transfer window. The defender has all the physical traits needed, is good in the air, and is deceptively quick for a centreback. Therefore, he will definitely boost the backline of the Old Lady and can give them a massive uplift in European and also Italian football.

Araujo is not happy after having lost his position to Pau Curbarsi and Inigo Martinez. Barcelona, on the other hand, are suffering from financial problems. So, it will be a big task for them to replace a player of the quality of Araujo if he leaves. However, his departure could help Barca register some of the players that they are struggling to do.

Should the Gunners sign him?

The Gunners have become a world-class side under Mikel Arteta. They have more financial capabilities than Juventus and are also competing for the Premier League title. Playing under a manager like Arteta could also serve as a massive pull. Now, it remains to be seen if Arsenal can lure Araujo away from his move to Italy.

If he moves to the Emirates Stadium, he will definitely become one of the first picks to play for the side. The Uruguayan has some big years ahead of him and hence can go on to serve Arteta’s side for a long time.
