Arsenal are looking to sign Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners want another goalie after Karl Hein exited on loan and with Aaron Ramsdale also likely to leave. The England youth international has emerged as a target.
Tickle was named the Player of the Season for Wigan last season after helping the League One club to a 12th-place finish in League One despite starting the campaign with an eight-point deduction.
The 22-year-old kept 18 clean sheets in 52 appearances. He made his debut for England under-21s in their 7-0 win European Under-21 Championship qualification win over Luxembourg in March 2024.
Arsenal are convinced he has what it takes to be their third-choice goalkeeper, as Espanyol’s Joan Garcia remains their option to replace Ramsdale.
However, whether the Wigan star is willing to relinquish regular first-team football in the third tier for a place on Arsenal’s bench remains to be seen.
Arsenal want to sign at least one goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closes, and Tickle fits the bill as he would help boost their homegrown status in the first-team.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dan Bentley was on their radar earlier, but getting a deal done for their former youth player has proven tricky.
Tickle established himself as first-choice in goal last season, getting rewarded with a new four-year deal in May that runs until 2028.
