Arsenal: William Saliba extends his contract
Arsenal can breathe a sigh of relief: French defender William Saliba, long coveted by Real Madrid, has chosen to remain in London. The club officially announced on Thursday that their 24-year-old player has signed a new multi-year contract.
Since his arrival in 2019, Saliba has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world. Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, was full of praise:
William has become an incredible defender, whose composure, intelligence, and physical presence make him one of the best in the world. His consistency and maturity are major assets for our team.
The same sentiment is echoed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta:
William is loved by all the players and staff. Since he arrived, he has grown a lot, taken on responsibility, and built a strong bond with our supporters. There’s still so much more to come from him.
For Saliba, the choice to stay was a simple one: he feels at home at Arsenal:
I am proud to stay here. Since I arrived, I’ve grown, I’ve found a fantastic team and staff. The coach is perfect for me, so this is the best place to improve. Every day I wear this shirt, I try to give my all, and now I will give even more to the club and the fans.
With this extension, Arsenal secures a key figure in their defense and sends a strong message to their European rivals: Saliba is not for sale. The London club can now count on him to keep chasing titles and further solidify their defense in the seasons ahead.
