The visitors were ahead inside quarter of an hour, Steph Catley sending Stina Blackstenius away down the left, who cut in to tuck the ball inside Mary Earps’ far post.

The scores were back level by the half-hour mark, Gabby George playing a long ball for Leah Galton, who was gifted a goal by Sabrina D’Angelo air shot when attempting a clearance.

Geyse was inches wide of the far post after the break, while Arsenal had substitutes Katie McCabe and Caitlin Foord quickly booked, as was Jonas Eidevall for his protests.

Earps gathered Alessia Russo’s header from a Kim Little cross at the second attempt, the United keeper again saving from her former teammate moments later.

Into the last dozen minutes only the woodwork denied Russo, before two United subs combined to put them 2-1 up. Hinata Miyazawa headed the ball through to Melvine Malard, who poked it home as the Gunners failed to deal with the threat.

Frida Maanum had the ball in the net for Arsenal but the flag went up for offside, then three minutes into the added six Gunners’ sub Chloe Lacasse hit the top corner from outside the box.
