Arsenal Women have completed the signing of goalkeeper Anneke Borbe.
The German joins the Gunners on a free transfer after her contract with Wolfsburg expired at the end of last month.
Borbe will be expected to come in and provide competition for Daphne van Domselaar, who established herself as Arsenal’s No1 last season.
“I’m really proud to join this amazing club,” said Borbe. “I’m so happy to have the opportunity to come and be a part of Arsenal at such an exciting time.
“I’m looking forward to getting down to work with my team-mates and of course playing in front of our incredible supporters at Emirates Stadium.”
Borbe began her career at Werder Bremen, making her debut at the age of just 16. She went on to play 77 times before joining Wolfsburg in 2023.
The 24-year-old has had to be patient since. Borbe did not make her debut until November last year, but by the end of the season she was Wolfsburg’s No1.
“We’re delighted to bring Anneke to the club,” said Arsenal Women head coach Renee Slegers.
“We’ve been impressed by her composure and aerial presence and we believe she has a high ceiling for development here.
“We’re looking forward to working with Anneke in this next chapter of her career and I know our supporters will join us in giving her a warm welcome here.”
Borbe’s arrival could have an impact on the future of Manuela Zinsberger, who has been with Arsenal for six years.
The goalkeeper lost her place as Arsenal’s No1 after the arrival of Van Domselaar and Borbe joining will spark interest from other European clubs, who can offer her more playing time.
