Arsenal’s left wing dilemma: Five players the Gunners could pursue this summer

Arsenal have recruited six players during the summer transfer window. There could be another addition to the squad.

The Gunners could target a left-sided winger due to the inconsistency of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Let’s have a look at five possible options the club could pursue.

Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace

The England international had a phenomenal 2024/25 season with Palace, registering 14 goals and 11 assists. He primarily played as an attacking midfielder, but can also operate from the left wing.

The 27-year-old has a left-sided bias to his playing style and would be a good addition to the ranks, considering his terrific dribbling skills, direct running and ability to create and score goals.

His £68 million release clause expires tonight. Arsenal may likely negotiate a lower package.

Rodrygo – Real Madrid

The Brazilian was heavily linked with the Gunners during the Club World Cup after he was dropped to the bench by new Madrid manager Xabi Alonso. A transfer could still be on the cards.

Rodrygo managed 26 goal involvements during the previous campaign. Out of this, he made 12 goal contributions from as many appearances on the left wing for the La Liga giants.

Arsenal could lure him with guaranteed playing time on the left flank. He won’t come on the cheap, however, with Madrid valuing him at £78.5m while his wages could be on the high side.

Rafael Leao – AC Milan

Leao has been associated with a move to the English top flight for some time. The Portuguese has admitted that he likes to watch the Gunners, and convincing him may not be hard.

The big question remains whether manager Mikel Arteta can be persuaded to sign the former Lille star. Leao is terrific with his quick dribbling and can win one-on-one duels in the box.

However, his out-of-possession work rate remains a big concern. Leao is not known for helping out his defence, and this could deter his chances of joining the Gunners this summer.

Leao, who netted 12 goals and provided 13 assists for the Rossoneri last term, could cost £78.5m.

Alejandro Garnacho – Manchester United

Arsenal’s search for a specialist left winger could lead them to United’s Garnacho, who is determined to continue in the Premier League after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim.

The Argentine contributed towards 21 goals for the Red Devils last season, but he has been deemed surplus to requirements. He could be signed for a relatively affordable fee of £40m.

Garnacho’s main issue has been his consistency. If he can live up to his potential, he could evolve into an elite winger. Arsenal enquired about him earlier this year, but have not made a move yet.

Everton have failed to convince Fofana to join them amid interest from Champions League clubs. We believe he could be a wildcard option for the Gunners to bolster the left wing.

The Belgian can be signed for a package of £34.5m. Unlike the above candidates, the 20-year-old is relatively inexperienced at the top level, having spent only 18 months in French football.

He had a promising 2024/25 campaign with 17 goal involvements. Fofana may not be a guaranteed starter at Arsenal and could be seen as a potential competitor to Martinelli and Trossard.
