Arsenal's U19 side defeated Bayern Munich U19 in the UEFA Youth League earlier today with the Gunners bringing on 13-year-old Luis Munoz – the youngest ever player in the competition.

The introduction of Munoz in the 85th minute means that the England youth team star has now beaten the competition's record which had been set by Liam Payas of Gibraltar side Lincoln Red Imps when they faced Maribor in September 2024.

Munoz was born in December 2011 and is 13 years and 11 months old, far younger than Papas was (14 years, three months) when he previously set the record. Benjamin Bjornsson of Stjarnan (14 years, four months), Anastasis Glafkou of Pafos FC (14 years, seven months), and Borussia Dortmund's Hamzath Mohamadou (14 years, eight months) the other three youngest players to feature in the Youth League to date.

To put Munoz's age into perspective, Mikel Arteta joined the Gunners as a player on August 31st 2011 – just months before Munoz was born. The Spaniard was then named Arsenal manager two days after the footballing prodigy's eighth birthday.

Curiously, the previous youngest Arsenal player in the tournament was 15-year-old Max Dowman scored twice for Arsenal in Wednesday's 4-2 win. Dowman, who has already featured for the senior team, was just 14 when he made his debut in the tournament against Atalanta in September 2024.
