Arsène Wenger has moved to distance himself from Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.
In a statement, FIFA’s chief of global football development said he had no role in drafting the strategic plan and first learned of it through the media.
He set out that his remit focuses on the game, ranging from analysing performance data to developing coaching and education in 60 countries.
Wenger said scrapping the proposal was the right decision and left no room for doubt, citing his belief in an independent FIFA that serves the sport with commitment, transparency and integrity.
The former Arsenal manager also serves as a technical adviser to IFAB.
