Girona forward Artem Dovbyk has been the subject of interest from a number of sides this summer, but it looks as if Roma are set to be his final destination. That said, Atletico Madrid were under the impression that it was to the Metrpolitano he was headed last week.
After Dovbyk’s agent said publicly that they did not see a ‘serious project’ at Atletico for the Pichichi last season, Marca have reported that Los Rojiblancos will not be drawn into ‘blackmail’ by Oleksander Lundovsky. Various outlets had reported that his demands for a commission were the key obstacle to the deal happening, and Dovbyk has commented on Tribuna’s Instagram post that this was ‘lies’, and that the truth would be revealed next week.
Regardless of the collapse of the Dovbyk deal to Atletico, Fabrizio Romano has reported that personal terms are already agreed with Roma, and talks between the Giallorossi and Girona will begin next week. Roma will offer over €30m to begin with.
Matteo Moretto has added that their offer could be €32m plus variables, but also that West Ham are moving for the Ukrianian forward too. They have gotten back in contact with Lundovsky, but as things stand, Dovbyk is focused on Roma as his primary option – the Atletico move is considered beyond salvage.
Atletico had initially agreed to terms with Girona on a €35m deal including variables – no matter who is right or wrong, if Dovbyk does join the Italian side, then Atletico will be left without an established number nine three weeks out from the start of the season. Following the exits of Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata, 20-year-old Samu Omorodion and Angel Correa are the most natural options there as things stand, although Atletico B forward Carlos Martin is also an outside option.
