Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will miss Arsenal’s Champions League quarter final first leg against Sporting CP.

The winger withdrew from national team duty with England over the international break and then missed Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Southampton.

Saka has not travelled for the clash in Portugal, along with defender Jurrien Timber who continues to miss out through injury.

“They haven’t travelled, they’re not ready yet,” Arteta said ahead of the game.

“Hopefully they will be ready for the weekend and that would be a massive boost as we’ve lost so many important players in recent days and that’s something that we need to change immediately.”

In more positive news, however, Arteta confirmed that Gabriel, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice are ready to be involved.

Ebere Eze and Piero Hincapie are expected to miss out again, however.
