Arteta highlights ‘exceptional’ Raya trait as Arsenal bid to keep clean sheet run going | OneFootball

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hailed the anticipation of his goalkeeper David Raya in contributing to the Gunners’ outstanding clean sheet record.

The Gunners have kept eight straight clean sheets in all competitions and Arteta says it is the things Raya does that go unnoticed which are key in helping to keep the ball out of the net.

“Well, first of all, the way he is naturally, the way he trains every single day and the way he anticipates things,” Arteta said.

“Because sometimes when a player doesn’t have to make a defensive action, it’s because before that they’ve done something with their position and are really in the situation that that action that is very spectacular is not needed, and that’s the best way to avoid it, and David is exceptional at that.

“I think his role, obviously, is much more settled, but David has always been a really determined, confident person and I think he showed that from the very first minute when he joined the club.”
