Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal remain 'really active' in the transfer market as the club seek signings before the deadline.
Arsenal have added Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier to their title-winning squad this summer, while Ezri Konsahas signed from Aston Villa for a fee of £51m. The England defender has finalised his move to North London with an official club announcement imminent.
Arsenal open the 2026/27Premier League season at home to Coventry City tonight, as the North Londoners host Frank Lampard's side in the capital.
Ahead of the fixture, Arteta has insisted Arsenal remain 'really active' in the transfer window, ahead of the September 1st deadline. The Gunners are understood to be keen to add another forward to their ranks, while several squad members are expected to exit.
"We are really active in the market, I think I mentioned that a few days ago. The ambition is to improve the squad," Arteta said at hispre-match press conference.
"We have a really specific issue in the backline, especially with the long-term injury of Wilo [Saliba] and the fact that we miss one more defender; that's clear. So we are trying to reinforce that area. Whenever we’re ready, we’ll announce something."
Arteta added that he has been pleased with the additions made this summer, insisting the new faces have brought new energy to the squad.
"Yes, that's what the new signings bring: a new energy, something to prove in front of them as well, and obviously a competition, and when you talk about players of that quality and leadership, the same with Christos [Tzolis] or with Illan [Meslier], what they've done since day one, I think it lifts the level of everybody."
