Arsenal Consider High-Profile Departures in January Window

Arsenal’s summer recruitment drive was one of the most ambitious in recent Premier League history. With major arrivals such as Viktor Gyökeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, the club committed close to £260 million in fees and add-ons. That level of investment has strengthened Mikel Arteta’s options but also created the need for balance ahead of the January transfer window.

According to reports in Spain, Arteta is prepared to sanction the departures of two senior figures: Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard. Both players remain under long-term contracts but have slipped down the manager’s hierarchy in recent months, leading to serious questions about their future at the Emirates.

Arteta’s Balancing Act

Arteta has consistently spoken about building depth across all positions. Yet the reality of financial regulations and a crowded squad means difficult decisions may be looming.

Jesus is one of the highest earners at the club, with wages reported at around £265,000 per week. Trossard, meanwhile, commands approximately £90,000 per week. While both have played valuable roles since arriving in north London, shifting them off the wage bill would give Arsenal flexibility for future recruitment.

There is understood to be interest from clubs across Europe and beyond, with Arsenal willing to consider offers that could generate a “significant” return. Such a strategy would not only offset summer spending but also pave the way for further reinforcements in 2025.

Jesus Facing Uncertain Future

The Brazilian forward’s Arsenal career has been disrupted by fitness setbacks. Jesus required surgery on an ACL issue and has yet to feature this season. While he has been included in the Premier League squad, he was left out of the 25-man list for the Champions League.

That decision underlines the uncertainty surrounding his role. If Jesus can regain fitness before January, he could still stake a claim for his place. However, the prospect of him moving on is now firmly on the agenda, particularly if suitors are willing to meet Arsenal’s valuation.

Trossard’s Limited Involvement

Trossard’s situation is different but equally complex. The Belgian has made just two substitute appearances in the league this term, totalling 48 minutes. At 30, he finds himself behind several summer signings in the attacking rotation, limiting opportunities to establish rhythm.

His versatility across the forward line remains an asset, yet the indications are that Arsenal may be prepared to cash in while there is still demand for his services. Both Jesus and Trossard are contracted until 2027, so Arsenal are in a strong position to negotiate favourable terms should they proceed with sales.

Strategic Decisions Ahead

Arteta’s project is defined by constant evolution. While the possible exits of Jesus and Trossard would surprise many supporters, they reflect the club’s determination to remain competitive at the top level. January could therefore mark another pivotal juncture, with Arsenal weighing loyalty to established players against the need for financial balance and squad refreshment.
