Mikel Arteta has said the ambition for Arsenal is to be 'the best club in the world' as the Gunners prepare to begin their Premier League title defence.
Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the league title by winning the Premier League last season, and came within a penalty shootout of a first-everChampions League crown.
The North Londoners have made huge progress under Arteta, and underlined their status as Premier League favourites after thrashing Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield at the weekend. Arsenal begin their title defence at home to newly-promoted Coventry City on Friday night.
Ahead of that clash at the Emirates, Arteta outlined the ambition of the club's ownership to turn the Gunners into the world's best club - across all metrics.
Arteta said Arsenal want to be the world's most attractive destination for the top talent in the game.
"It's certainly the ambition of the club and the owners to be the best club in the world," he toldSky Sports.
"In order to do that, you need the best facilities, the best stadium, the best supporters, and you need the best squad and the best players in the world.
"Those are the ones that win you football matches and the ones that can be decisive when it matters.
"That's what we try to build with the actual players that we have, and with the players that we want to sign to make the difference for Arsenal."
