AS Cannes' protest over last weekend's 3-0 defeat at Nîmes has been ruled admissible, with the French Football Federation to review the case on 7 May, L'Équipe reports.
The National 2 Group C meeting, the 27th round between the top two, was marred by the absence of 210 Cannes fans. Cannes say they were blocked from the Stade des Antonins despite a prefectural order being lifted, and accuse Nîmes of reselling away tickets.
The case has two strands. The federal disciplinary commission will examine the large number of flares lit by Nîmes supporters and will probably issue a fine. The federal commission organising the men's senior championships will rule on the dispute over the missing away fans and any sanctions, with both clubs asked to file their arguments.
Nîmes maintain they followed the rules to the letter and complied with federation procedures. Cannes take the opposite view. Their general manager, Antoine Gobin, argues the events outside the ground influenced the match despite the emphatic scoreline, and he believes a points deduction is the only sufficiently dissuasive outcome.
The Association nationale des supporters, ANS, has written to the FFF in support of Cannes.
Both clubs are chasing promotion to L3, with only the leaders going up. Nîmes moved above Cannes, while Cannes beat Goal FC 2-1 on Friday. The Crocodiles visit Andrézieux on Saturday afternoon.
