Reduced to 10 men after an hour of play, the Rouge et Blanc managed to hold on to a draw against Lille and thus continue their unbeaten run this season (0-0).
Down a man for the last 30 minutes of the match, the Rouge et Blanc managed to hold on to a draw against a tenacious Lille side and thus continue their unbeaten run under the watchful eye of President Dmitry Rybolovlev.✍️
After two weeks without a match over the international break, AS Monaco returned to league play with a clash against Lille. Leaders and undefeated after seven matches (6 wins, 1 draw), the Rouge et Blanc wanted to continue this and consolidate first place. But the task was not easy since Les Dogues are on three wins in a row, including a prestigious one against Real Madrid.
Very big opponents are coming and for me Lille are one of the best teams in the league, they are also in the Champions League. When you remember the last match (a 1-0 victory) it was a very difficult encounter. We must expect a big match tomorrow night against Lille.
For this big match to return from the international break, Adi Hütter had to compensate for the absences due to injuries of Mohammed Salisu and Folarin Balogun. To replace them, the Austrian decided to start Wilfried Singo in defense and George Ilenikhena in attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation. He would be supported by Takumi Minamino, Eliesse Ben Seghir and Aleksandr Golovin. Jordan Teze would start as right back.
The Rouge et Blanc put on a lot of pressure from the start and prevented Lille from getting out of their half properly. They thus created two chances through Aleksandr Golovin but his shot was caught by Lucas Chevalier (3′) before setting up Eliesse Ben Seghir, whose half-volley was slightly over (5′).
Lille played more in transition and on one of these, Jonathan David forced Radoslaw Majecki to make his first save of the season (11′). The match was very tactical and chances were hard to come by in this first half. It was indeed necessary to wait until the half hour to pass to send a shiver through the stands of the Stade Louis-II. Unfortunately, Jordan Teze’s powerful strike was wide of the right post (36′).
The second half started on a similar basis with the Monegasques positioned high up the pitch and having the ball. The first chance came for our Golden Boy finalist, who placed a header over the bar (56′). There was no better luck for Taki’, whose shot was also goes over the goal (58′). Unfortunately, the Rouge et Blanc found themselves a man down after a second yellow for Jordan Teze (61′).
Although we were down a man, the physiognomy of the match did not change even if Edon Zhegrova tried his luck from 25 meters, an effort that was wide (67′). Shortly thereafter, Krépin Diatta, who had come on a few moments earlier, shot just over (72′), as did Breel Embolo, who had come on at the same time, but was flagged offside (83′). Then on the counter, Denis Zakaria, well found by Maghnes Akliouche, was denied by Chevalier (90+1′).
It was infuriating since the match ended a few moments later as a scoreless draw (0-0). It was a result which nevertheless allowed the players of AS Monaco to maintain their unbeaten run this season and to temporarily have a three-point lead over PSG. Now it’s time for the Champions League with a visit from Red Star Belgrade, this Tuesday (6:45 p.m.), before the Derby against Nice next Sunday (5 p.m.). Daghe Munegu! 🇲🇨
3′: Golovin’s shot is too soft, caught by Chevalier 5′: Ben Seghir’s half-volley goes slightly over 11′: David’s shot is blocked by Majecki, who made his first save of the season 36′: Teze’s powerful shot goes wide of the right post 56′: Ben Seghir’s header is over 58′: Minamino’s right-footed shot also goes over 61′: Teze’s second yellow card, sees him sent off 67′: Zhegrova’s left-footed shot goes wide 72′: Diatta’s shot flies over 91′: Chevalier’s firm hand pushes Zak’s shot away
With this draw, AS Monaco now has 20 points after eight Ligue 1 matches. This is its best total in the top flight since the 1991-1992 season, counting three points for a victory (21).
